Gardening ...Its a family affair!

Each summer we love to put in a garden. Our favorite is Tomatoes and Jalapenos, so that we can make salsa.! YUM!!! Last year we didnt have very good luck with where we put the garden, not enough sun. So this year we decided to use the side yard to make a really big garden, lots of room and plenty of sun.

With these hard times the extra food it produces will come in handy! It feels so good to fix food with the vegis we grew ourselves! The kids love to pick stuff and show me what they grew.
We brought in some steer manuer and Papa came over to rottatill. Jason made the rows and I planted everything with the boys help. All the kids love to work in the garden. I know it will bring lots of good memories for us all. It has always brought us together because we all work on it.

I also think its a good lesson for them to learn how hard work pays off. I think these hard times will be a good lesson for our kids. They need to learn that everything dosent come easy, and you cant always have everything you want. I believe if you have it too easy growing up you expect it to be easy when your an adult. Spoiled kids dont make happy adults!
We can have good times and make good memories right here at home with little or no money spent. Money is not the key to happiness, LOVE is!!!

So these are the before pictures...I will keep them updated as the garden grows.

Jason made and extra wide row for the kids to hand out in, because we know they like to be right in the middle of it! This way they dont cave in the watering rows.
Ill tell you what we planted in order... 4 rows of corn early girl tomatoes, roma tomatoes, yellow pear tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, jalapenos, serrano peppers, green chili, bell peppers, sweet basil (smells so good), green beans, butter and select leaf lettuce, cucumbers, zucinni and butternut squash, red potatoes. In other areas at our house we grow, garlic, green onions, chives and a small pot of strawberries ( I want more!). Then of course 50million grape vines of white, concord and red grapes. All we need is some chickens and cows! We wouldnt need Walmart anymore! What a harvest... I cant wait. YUM!!! Dont worry Ill share!!!

Letting out the string...

Children are like kites. You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground. You run with them untill youre both breathless~ they crash~ you add a longer tail~ they hit the rooftop~ you pluck them out of the of the trees~ you patch and comfort, adjust and teach. You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday they'll fly! ... Finally they are airborne but they need more string and you keep letting it out little by little and with each twist of the ball of twine, there is a sadness that goes with the joy because the kite becomes more distant and somehow you know that it wont be long before that beautiful creature will no longer need the lifeline that bound you together. It will be ready to saor on its own as it was meant to soar~ Free and independent .

This is a poem on a plaque that Lynn had hanging in the hall as long as Ive been with Jason. Its a wooden plaque that lynn made and painted in the shape of a kite and it has a long ribbion hanging from it. She had it in the hall and the robbion would blow with the aircondition. So neat I thought. Ive always loved the saying and have kept it. Its so true. And I thought it was the perfect poem to go along with how I was feeling.
For so long the boys have wanted to walk to school but I never have let them. I know we live soooooo close but I just cant see them the whole way and ive always been the mom that drops them off at the door and wont leave till they are safe within the schools doors. BUT Jordan turned 9 which is I guess to him such the big boy. So we are letting him have a little more responsibility. He walk with Haden to school now. I stay on the balcony and watch them for as long as I can see them and then he calls me when he gets to the schools grass yard. Then I know they are safe and they get the sense of independence. So far it has been working out great.
